Initiatives for Future Energy

There are high expectations for the use of bioethanol and natural gas as a means of energy security and as a way of combating air pollution.
To help realize a sustainable society, the Nakagawa Bussan Group is conducting investigations and examinations on alternative fuels while exploring various possibilities.
We are implementing various sustainability initiatives to ensure a stable supply of energy for the future and to realize a better energy society.

E7 GasolineStart of sales: 2023

With the aim of further reducing CO2 emissions, Nakagawa Bussan started manufacturing and commercial sales of "E7 gasoline."
E7 gasoline is an environmentally friendly automotive fuel made by mixing gasoline with 7% plant-derived bioethanol.
Its octane rating is the same as that of regular gasoline, providing the same level of performance as conventional gasoline.

E3 GasolineStart of sales: 2011

Nakagawa Bussan was selected for the Ministry of the Environment's Eco Fuel Utilization Promotion Subsidy Program and began manufacturing and sales of E3 gasoline for the first time on a commercial basis in Japan.
E3 gasoline, developed to reduce CO2 emissions, which is the key to combating global warming, is an environmentally friendly automotive fuel that blends gasoline with 3% plant-derived bioethanol.

Biodiesel (HVO diesel)Start of sales: 2022

Nakagawa Bussan started selling next-generation biodiesel fuel, a mixture of conventional diesel and 20% biofuel, to the general public at service stations in 2022.
It is a blend of 80% conventional diesel and 20% HVO, a biofuel made by hydrorefining plant materials.
It is a hydrocarbon fuel that has the same properties as fossil-derived diesel fuel and can be used in current diesel vehicles.

GTL (Gas-to-Liquids) DieselStart of sales: 2016

"GTL" is a clean, synthetic alternative diesel fuel with lower environmental impact that can replace conventional diesel. It is a product derived from natural gas and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions despite having the same properties as petroleum-derived diesel. This natural gas-derived synthetic fuel is environmentally friendly with cleaner emissions, making a significant contribution to improving the air quality.

*Note:
In Japan, it is not permitted to use GTL diesel as fuel oil for vehicles that run on public roads.

Biojet FuelStart of testing: 2020

Nakagawa Bussan participated in the biojet fuel (which was the first one produced in Japan) test flight project as a partner company.
A domestically produced biojet fuel, which is a blend of biojet fuel and our jet fuel, has passed the international standard (ASTM D7566).
Test flights using actual aircraft were successfully conducted. We are cooperating in activities aiming at practical application and commercialization of this biojet fuel.

E30 GasolineStart of testing: 2024

For specific applications, we manufacture "E30 gasoline," which is a blend of petroleum-derived gasoline and 30% plant-derived bioethanol.
Our E30 gasoline has passed performance tests using actual vehicles, and we are now working toward full-scale introduction.

ISCC PLUS CertificationCertification acquired: 2023

Nakagawa Bussan obtained ISCC PLUS Certification (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification), which is one of the international certification systems for sustainable products.
ISCC PLUS Certification is a certification system designed to guarantee that biomass raw materials and recycled raw materials are properly managed and that a system is in place to share product information across the supply chain. This makes it possible to prove the amount of CO2 reductions based on LCA.
